Identify each use the clause permits
A marketing clause may permit a client-list mention, logo display, reference call, testimonial or detailed case study. Review those uses separately. Permission to name the company does not explain whether the provider may disclose financial results, describe internal problems or quote an employee.
Ask where the material will appear and who can reuse it. A website listing, sales presentation and paid advertisement create different visibility. Identify whether the permission extends to affiliates, agencies or future campaigns. Give the company representative enough information to approve the actual use rather than a broad category called promotion.
Approve the actual claims and supporting facts
For a case study, request the full text, images, quotations and intended context before publication. Verify that any figures describe the correct period, measurement and scope. A reduction in bookkeeping hours should not be presented as a reduction in total finance cost if the company moved work to another team.
Do not let a provider turn a routine thank-you into a public endorsement without the required permission. Ask that quotes remain accurate and that changes return for approval. If an example is fictional or composite, it should be labeled and should not be attributed to your company as a real result.
FTC information-protection guidance supports limiting disclosure of sensitive data. Review the draft for employee, customer and commercial information that is unnecessary to the story. A company name may be public while the details of its accounting problems or transactions remain confidential.

Define duration, updates and withdrawal
Ask how long permission lasts, whether material can be changed and how the company requests removal or correction. Identify what the provider can remove from its own channels and what may remain in printed or third-party copies. Have the actual terms reviewed rather than assuming a universal right or ability to erase every past use.
Consider what happens after the engagement ends or the business changes. A case study can become misleading if it implies an ongoing relationship or describes a service the company no longer uses. Specify how the provider will handle those changes and who monitors the accuracy of continuing claims.
Keep references as a separate arrangement
If management agrees to act as a reference, set the contact, subjects and frequency it is willing to accommodate. Obtain the reference participant's agreement and protect confidential details. A positive reference should describe real experience within its limits, without promising that another client will receive the same result.
Retain the approved material and consent record. If a proposed use exceeds that approval, resolve it through the agreed contact before publication where possible. The accounting relationship can support a useful public example while preserving the company's control over the claims and information it has deliberately agreed to share.
