Compare a payment route, not an isolated exchange rate

Airwallex and Wise Business both offer ways for eligible businesses to receive, hold, convert, and send money internationally. Airwallex presents its business account within a wider global finance platform, including organizational account oversight and accounting connections. Wise Business emphasizes international business accounts and payments, with published features for teams and accounting connections.

For either product, the useful comparison begins with your legal entity, the currency you receive, the currency you send, and the recipient's location. A provider can fit one recurring route well and be unsuitable for another. Do not choose based on a rate shown for a different country or payment method.

This guide uses public US product and pricing pages reviewed on October 18, 2026. Eligibility and available features must be checked for the company that will open the account; a US page does not establish availability for a business registered elsewhere.

Build a comparison for your recurring routes

Use actual business requirements without sharing account credentials. Give both providers the same currencies, amounts, timing needs, and recipient countries.

Calculate what the recipient receives

Compare live quotes at approximately the same time. Record the amount debited, the conversion rate, separately stated fees, the amount the recipient should receive, and the estimated arrival. Keep any recipient-bank or intermediary charges that the quote does not cover visible as an uncertainty.

For an illustrative purchasing exercise, suppose the supplier must receive exactly EUR 10,000. Ask how much your business must fund in its source currency to deliver that amount. Comparing two quotes for the same source-currency debit could produce different supplier receipts and fail to meet the invoice terms.

Repeat the exercise for your typical small payment as well as the larger supplier payment. Fixed charges and percentage-based charges affect those transactions differently. A provider that is cheaper for one amount is not automatically cheaper across your entire monthly payment mix.

Include receiving and withdrawal costs where they apply. A favorable conversion quote cannot describe the total cost if the business first pays to receive the funds or later pays to move them to the account it uses for operations.

Separate operating cash from the payment workflow

Decide how much money needs to remain in the account and for how long. A business using the service for occasional supplier payments has a different requirement from one collecting customer receipts and funding payroll from balances held in several currencies.

Review the legal provider and the terms governing the exact account or balance product. Ask how funds are held, which protections apply, and what the company must do if access is restricted or a transfer is delayed. Avoid assuming that every balance offered under a financial brand has the same legal treatment.

Build an alternative payment route for time-critical obligations. Keep sufficient operational visibility to know whether funds have been sent, are being reviewed, have arrived, or have been returned. A delivery estimate should not become an unconditional promise to a supplier.

For larger or less familiar transfers, confirm beneficiary details through the company's approved process. An international-payment tool can send money efficiently while still relying on your team to identify the correct recipient.

Make each currency balance reconcilable

The accountant needs a statement for each relevant balance, with an opening amount, transactions, fees, conversions, and closing amount. Ask for a sample export and trace a transfer between two currencies. Both sides of the conversion should be identifiable.

Transfers between accounts owned by the same company should not become new revenue merely because they arrive as deposits. Identify the originating account and retain the conversion evidence where applicable. Agree the treatment of exchange differences with the company's accountant.

If more than one legal entity uses the platform, keep ownership clear. One entity funding another can create an intercompany balance that needs separate review. A consolidated screen should not replace the individual entities' records.

Test how the accounting connection handles a reversed transfer and a returned supplier payment. A normal successful transaction proves little about how the team will investigate an exception during month-end.

Choose the provider that fits both payment and review

Favor Airwallex when its available account and organizational workflow solves the required global finance tasks and the quoted routes meet your cost and timing needs. Favor Wise Business when its supported receiving and payment arrangements cover the work with controls and records your team can maintain. Neither recommendation establishes a universal price advantage.

Open the account only after confirming eligibility and the applicable terms. Test a small authorized payment, reconcile its actual debit and receipt, and then document the normal funding process. Avoid moving every payment at once before the team has reviewed a completed cycle.

Keep the route comparison current when volumes, currencies, or supplier locations change. Recheck ordinary charges and available features at those decision points instead of allowing an old introductory quote to determine a materially different payment setup.
