Treat the request as the beginning of the movement
Save the removal order identifier, requested products, quantities and destination. Confirm that the receiving warehouse is prepared to accept and identify the goods. A removal request does not prove that every unit has shipped, arrived or become available for sale. Track the status of each physical stage until the destination can support its receiving entry.
Amazon permits removal requests that return inventory to a designated recipient, with separate options for disposal. Its reporting guidance distinguishes Removal Order Detail from Removal Shipment Detail. Use the order report to follow the request and the shipment report to follow parcels, instead of expecting one total to explain both.

Reconcile partial shipments and partial receipts
Create a quantity bridge from requested units to canceled or unresolved units, units shipped and units accepted at the destination. A single removal order may need several receiving records. Retain tracking references and SKU mappings so staff can identify a parcel even when it contains mixed products or uses marketplace-specific labels.
For a hypothetical request of 200 units, assume 170 have shipped and the warehouse has accepted 155. Thirty units remain in the origin process, while 15 shipped units require transit or receiving follow-up. Recording all 200 at the destination would overstate its stock by 45 units. The accountant should separately assess ownership and the appropriate location balances.
Check the destination's receiving date against the carrier's delivery evidence. A delivered carton can remain unprocessed in a receiving area. Ask operations to confirm that situation before filing a missing-parcel claim or adjusting the inventory quantity.
Inspect the returned stock before releasing it
Record condition and quantities at receipt, including damaged packaging, incomplete products and goods requiring relabeling. Preserve the marketplace disposition where available and compare it with the receiving inspection. Do not assume every removed unit can return to ordinary available stock. Keep quarantined goods identifiable until the operating owner approves their disposition.
Retain the costs of removal, freight, inspection and any rework separately. Ask the accountant which costs belong in inventory under the applicable policy and which are period costs. A charge associated with moving stock is not automatically capitalizable. The expected selling outcome and reason for the removal may matter to the valuation review.
Close the remaining quantity and fee exceptions
Match marketplace removal fees to the order and verify whether subsequent adjustments settle the same charge. Pursue missing or damaged goods through the applicable documented process, with the claimant, evidence and response tracked. Keep any reimbursement separate from the physical receiving record so a credit does not create an invented unit of stock.
At month end, provide the accountant with requested-but-unshipped, shipped-but-unreceived and received-but-uninspected populations. Close the removal order only when all residual quantities have a supported outcome. The completed record should show the final destination quantity, any loss or disposal, the associated costs and the status of claims still requiring collection.
