Identify the deposit and its maturity instructions
Retrieve the deposit confirmation, account terms and latest statement. Record the legal holder, bank, principal, currency, maturity date and instructions for interest and principal. Check whether renewal is automatic and who is authorized to change the instructions. A maturity date in the treasury register should not be treated as a confirmed incoming bank transfer.
The FDIC advises reviewing a certificate of deposit's interest, early-redemption and automatic-renewal terms. Those terms vary by product. This bookkeeping review should document the arrangement already approved by the company; investment selection and changes to its treasury policy require their own authorized decision.

Reconcile principal and interest before the event
Agree the principal to the ledger and supporting confirmation. Reconcile interest already credited or accrued under the accountant's policy. If the bank statement combines these balances, retain a breakdown that explains the components. Investigate any difference before relying on the expected maturity amount.
Identify fees, penalties or other adjustments only when supported by the agreement and actual event. An early withdrawal can differ from an ordinary maturity, so preserve the bank's calculation. Do not classify the full amount received as income or assume the original principal is the complete carrying amount under every reporting framework.
For a hypothetical deposit with $40,000 of principal and $300 of separately evidenced interest due, a $40,300 receipt needs those components distinguished. If $200 of interest was already accrued in the books, the cash receipt should be reviewed against that existing balance instead of recording all $300 as new income again.
Document the actual maturity or renewal outcome
Obtain the maturity advice and follow any transfer to the designated bank account. Record the value and posting dates and reconcile the received amount. If the deposit renews, obtain the new confirmation showing the amount, term, rate basis and next maturity. Keep the old and new records linked even if the bank retains the same account number.
A renewal can combine principal with interest or pay interest elsewhere, depending on the instructions. Reconcile that movement explicitly. The bank balance may show little activity while the contractual deposit changed. Update the ledger and supporting schedule using the actual confirmation.
If the outcome differs from the approved instruction, contact the bank promptly and preserve the request and response. Review any grace period or correction option under the actual agreement with the authorized treasury owner. Do not assume a consumer notice rule or standard grace period applies to the business's product. Assign a named person to track the bank's final resolution.
Update reporting, access and the next review date
Ask the accountant to review presentation and measurement under the company's reporting framework. A short maturity by itself should not substitute for the full cash-equivalent or investment-classification assessment. Keep the contract and acquisition information available for that decision.
Update the cash forecast with funds actually available for operating use and supported future releases. If renewal occurred, remove any unsupported assumption that the principal will arrive in the operating account on the old maturity date. Record who approved the resulting liquidity plan.
Refresh the deposit register, bank-concentration view and next instruction deadline. Retain the final reconciliation and tax information statements where issued. The completed record should let the accountant trace the original deposit through maturity, any interest settlement and the opening balance of the renewed instrument.
