Separate the platform's condition from the business's next action
Download unfulfillable inventory by product, quantity, condition and location. Identify why the stock cannot currently be sold through the marketplace. Packaging damage, product defects and other restrictions can lead to different recovery options. Obtain the responsible operating team's assessment before assuming that every unit should be written off or sent back to ordinary stock.
Amazon's unsellable-inventory guidance distinguishes condition evaluations and responsibility, with different consequences for reimbursement and removal. Use the actual disposition attached to the units. A generic unavailable total does not establish who owns the goods after a resolution or whether the merchant should expect a recovery.

Compare supported recovery routes at the unit level
For each material group, estimate the net result of the routes actually permitted: return to the business, repair or repackage, an eligible secondary sale, or disposal. Include removal, transport, inspection and selling costs. Obtain realistic condition evidence and a usable recovery estimate from the responsible team. An old retail price is weak support for damaged or restricted goods.
In a hypothetical case, returning a unit costs $3, necessary repacking costs $2 and selling it in its disclosed condition is expected to generate $11 after selling fees. That route produces $6 before the product's existing carrying value. If another permitted route provides a net $4 recovery without the work, management can compare the additional $2 with capacity and uncertainty. The example is a decision calculation, not an accounting valuation conclusion.
Keep safety, product restrictions and contractual limits in the decision. Finance's calculation cannot authorize a resale that the operating or legal owner has not approved.
Approve the disposition and preserve the quantity trail
Record the chosen route, products, quantities, expected costs and approver before submitting the instruction. Amazon's removal process includes return and disposal options. Verify the current account-specific requirements and consequences before selecting a route, especially where an instruction may be difficult to reverse. Retain the submitted request and confirmation.
Follow the goods through the resulting event. A removal request is not proof of delivery; a disposal request is not the same as evidence that the quantity left inventory. Reconcile platform status changes to the company's own inventory records and give the accountant the supporting disposition documents.

Compare the actual outcome with the decision
Match final quantities, fees and recoveries to the approved case. Distinguish an estimated recovery from an accepted receivable and from cash received. If fewer units are recovered or costs exceed the estimate, update the financial review and explain the cause. Keep any marketplace reimbursement outside the customer-sales population.
Review recurring unfulfillable stock by product, age and reason. The result may support changing packaging, inbound inspections or purchase quantities. Retain the operational finding and the accounting adjustment separately so the next buying decision can use the actual recovery experience without treating a one-time reimbursement as normal product margin.
