Retrieve the bundle sold and its original component allocation
Identify the bundle version, component SKUs, quantities and prices recorded on the original order. A current bundle page may contain different products or a different offer. Preserve the transaction's actual allocation before calculating what the returning component represents. The sum of current standalone prices is not necessarily what the customer paid for the bundle.
Shopify documents that discounts applied to a bundle are allocated among components using weighted prices. Inspect the actual stored allocation in the platform used by the business. Other bundle apps or custom arrangements may behave differently, and a return policy may impose additional conditions that require review.

Apply the permitted partial-return terms
Confirm whether the business accepts a partial return and how the approved terms determine the customer remedy. Keep any required consumer-rights assessment with the responsible policy owner. Do not automatically remove the original bundle benefit or recalculate retained items at today's retail prices merely to protect margin. Any adjustment needs a supported basis and clear approval.
For a hypothetical bundle with $60 and $40 component prices and a $20 discount allocated proportionally, the recorded net values are $48 and $32. If the approved remedy refunds the allocated amount for the second component, the merchandise refund is $32 before other adjustments. Refunding its $40 standalone price would add an $8 concession.
Retain the customer explanation and any exception. If support agrees to a different amount, show the difference from the original allocation so finance can distinguish the return from an additional accommodation.
Recover only the components actually received
Record the returned SKU and quantity independently from the bundle parent. Inspect missing accessories and partial packs before restoring stock. Returning one component should not increase every component in the bundle unless the system's documented assembly process and actual goods support that movement. Check the connector's restock behavior on the specific return.
If the bundle was physically assembled as a separate stock item, document any disassembly or repacking required. Keep unusable parts and recovered components distinct. The inventory-cost correction follows the approved costing method and the condition of the goods, not the customer's refund value.
Confirm that retained components remain associated with the original sale. A full-bundle reversal followed by an incomplete recreation can remove legitimate revenue or cost for items the customer still owns.
Reconcile the remaining order and promotion economics
Compare the original customer payment, completed partial refund and final retained merchandise amount. Verify the updated order and accounting entries agree, including any separately approved fee or concession. Preserve the partial-return identifier so a later return of another component uses the remaining entitlement rather than the original full bundle amount.
For management analysis, retain the bundle campaign and component return reason. A bundle can appear successful on initial order value while one component repeatedly comes back. Use mature order outcomes and actual recovered cost to review the offer, with customer policy decisions kept explicit and the underlying component records intact.
