After withdrawal, keep the state's service-of-process forwarding address current

Update the Texas forwarding record when a withdrawn foreign entity moves, and retain a reliable route for legal correspondence.

Retrieve the accepted withdrawal and its address

When a company moves after withdrawing its foreign registration, check the forwarding address recorded in the withdrawal. Save the accepted filing and identify the name used at withdrawal, local file number and address currently on record. An update to the company's active home-state address may not reach this historical record.

Identify who now receives legal correspondence for the company. The address should lead to a monitored location with an established escalation process. A former office can remain in an old filing long after routine business mail has moved, leaving an avoidable gap in notice handling.

Understand the post-withdrawal service arrangement

Texas explains that filing a foreign entity's withdrawal revokes the registered agent's authority to accept service there and consents to service through the Secretary of State. The forwarding address therefore remains relevant after the active registration has ended.

This does not decide whether a particular claim or attempted service is valid. Send legal papers to counsel promptly with the actual receipt information. The administrator's task is to maintain the address and preserve the correspondence, not to determine litigation rights.

Prepare the written address update

The Texas guidance permits an update by written notification. It asks for the entity's name at the time of withdrawal, the new address for forwarding process and the state file number if known. Use the historical name requested even if the company later changed its legal name, and include supporting context where the office requires it.

Have an authorized company representative review the request and confirm the destination address. Use the state's current submission instructions and retain the exact notification sent. A postal forwarding request or an email to a former registered agent does not itself update this government record.

Confirm the update without assuming a portal change

Keep delivery evidence and ask the filing office what confirmation it supplies. If the address is not visible in the ordinary public search, record the office's response rather than treating the absence of a displayed field as a failed update. Follow up using the same entity reference and submission date.

During the transition, arrange any permitted mail handoff with the former address holder and tell counsel about the timing. Preserve the envelopes and forwarding history of legal papers received through the old route. Those details can matter to the handling of the specific matter.

Add the withdrawn record to future move reviews

Maintain a list of withdrawn registrations that retain a correspondence address, separate from active registrations. Include the date last verified, responsible person and evidence location. A later office move should trigger review of this list along with current filings.

If the company is itself winding up or changing custodians, ask counsel who should continue monitoring the address and for how long. Store the instruction with the withdrawal record. Ending active operations should not leave the company without anyone assigned to receive and route correspondence sent through the retained state process.
