Choose the level of finance responsibility
CRI CFO Hub publishes fractional CFO, controller, accounting, and back-office support. Institution offers managed accounting alongside other finance operations and coordination services. Compare the roles needed in your business before comparing a combined fee.
A company with a strong bookkeeper may need controller review. Another may need a finance lead to manage liquidity and challenge a hiring plan. List both the routine accounting work and the decisions management wants help making so neither is lost inside a broad CFO brief.

Distinguish the controller from the adviser
Ask who approves reconciliations, reviews unusual entries, and maintains accounting policies. Separately, identify who updates the cash forecast, discusses variance, and supports management meetings. The people may work together, but their outputs should be identifiable.
Use a debt payment as a test. The accounting work should support principal, interest, fees, and balances. The finance work should reflect repayment timing and commitments in the cash forecast. Ask how the two records stay aligned after a change.
Compare delivery through a normal quarter
Request the close deadline, forecast-update cadence, management meetings, and availability between meetings. State what happens during financing, lender requests, or a material accounting issue. Separate routine scope from projects and extra capacity.
Agree that models, schedules, policies, and open questions are retained in a usable handover. Price the same responsibility map with each provider, including cleanup and software. The comparison should show what management can expect to receive and which decisions remain internal.
