Distinguish a listing problem from missing stock
Start with the marketplace's inventory status and reason, then identify the associated SKU, product reference, quantity and location. An inactive offer can prevent sales while the goods remain physically held for the business. Keep those units in the inventory reconciliation until evidence supports a transfer, sale, loss or other disposition; removing a listing from a sales report does not dispose of the goods.
Amazon describes stranded FBA inventory as units in fulfillment centers without an associated active offer, making them unavailable for sale on Amazon. Its guidance distinguishes that condition from reserved stock. Use the account's current reason and inventory reports instead of treating every unavailable quantity as stranded or assuming all stranded units are physically damaged.

Build a schedule by reason and recovery route
For each affected product, record the stranded quantity, underlying cost, date first identified and the documented reason. Assign the action to the person able to resolve it, such as catalog operations, purchasing or the marketplace account owner. Separate a missing offer from a policy restriction or a product-identity problem because the evidence and permissible remedy differ.
Preserve the original product mapping if the platform creates or displays another merchant identifier. Investigate whether it refers to existing units before creating an additional inventory record. A second SKU in the marketplace does not establish that the business owns twice as much stock. Link the account's reference to the original receipt and cost evidence.
Confirm current action requirements, account notices and applicable deadlines directly in the marketplace. Do not assume that an old help-page workflow or a previous case's timing applies. Keep the notice with the schedule so finance and operations can see the consequence of leaving the item unresolved.
Compare feasible recovery options
Estimate the cash and work required to restore a permitted offer, retrieve the goods or use another authorized disposition. Include expected sales proceeds, remaining fulfillment charges, removal, transport, inspection and repacking where relevant. Use realistic demand and timing assumptions. A technically repairable listing may still be uneconomic if recovery requires substantial spending and the product has little remaining demand.
Keep this recovery analysis separate from the inventory's accounting carrying amount. Provide the accountant with the condition, sales restrictions, age and supported recovery estimates so valuation can be assessed under the applicable policy. Neither listing inactivity nor a proposed future selling price alone establishes the correct book value.
Verify the physical and commercial outcome
For a listing repair, confirm that the correct offer is active and the affected units are actually available through it. For a removal, track the request through shipment, receipt and inspection at the destination. For another disposition, retain the completion and settlement evidence. An approved action is an open task until its outcome is verified.
Reconcile the resolved quantities back to the original stranded schedule and explain any remainder. Review recurring causes before sending additional stock or changing catalog records. Finance should be able to distinguish restored saleable inventory, goods in transit, recovered stock and confirmed losses, while operations can see which listing problems are repeatedly tying up working capital.
