A rule says that matching transactions go to a specific category. It saves you from confirming the same payee every month.
Make a rule while you review
In Needs your attention, choose a category for a transaction and select the option to create a rule. The rule is built on the merchant, and it applies to matching transactions from then on. You will see Rule saved for matching future transactions.
If a transaction has no merchant name, the page tells you it cannot make a rule from it.
Build one yourself
- Open Settings, then Bookkeeping rules.
- Under Transaction rules, add a rule and choose the condition: description contains, merchant contains, an amount above, below, or between two values, a financial account, or a transaction source.
- Enter the value to match, for example Amazon Web Services.
- Choose the category the rule should suggest. Only categories available to that company are offered.
- Save the rule. Each rule shows when it was last applied, and you can delete one you no longer want.
What rules cannot do
Rules help Max suggest categories, but they do not override protected accounting and authorization rules. Uncertain or controlled items still come back to Needs your attention for you to confirm.
