Understand the month-end close

Follow a close from checklist to locked period, and see what could hold it up.

Updated 2026-10-11

The month-end close is the last review of a month's books before they are final. Open Bookkeeping, then Month-end close, to follow it for the latest period.

What the page shows

  • Close progress as a percentage.
  • A checklist of steps, grouped by work such as categorization, bank reconciliation, journal entries, and financial statements.
  • Close blockers: anything stopping a step, with the reason.
  • Readiness markers for Client ready, Reports delivered, and Period locked.

What a blocker means

A blocked step needs something before it can finish. It is often a document, a category decision, or an unmatched statement line. The same item appears in your Action Center, so you can clear it from there. Blockers must be resolved before the period can be approved or locked.

When there is no close yet

If the page says no month-end close has started, a close period has not been opened. It fills in once Institution opens one.

After the close

A locked period is finished, and your reports for it are delivered under Reports and analytics. See find your financial reports.
