How your documents are protected

Who can open your files, and how download links behave.

Updated 2026-10-11

Documents you upload are stored privately. They are not public, and you cannot open one by guessing an address.

What that means in practice

  • Files are opened through short-lived links that expire on their own. If a download fails, request it again to get a fresh link.
  • What a person can see depends on their role and the service access you gave them. See team roles and permissions.
  • You can limit someone to Documents only, so they can upload and read files without seeing the rest of the workspace.

For a wider description of how Institution handles security, see the Security page on the Institution website.
